Topics for our upcoming History Talks (register for each below!) September: The Police Village of Cottam
Take a virtual walking tour of the main street of Cottam and hear stories of: the history of Talbot Road, why the North Ridge Post Office was located in Cottam, the celebrity woodcarver, a local speakeasy, and that time two guys on a motorcycle robbed a bank. This topic will be repeated in the eveing of Tuesday, October 13th at 7pm due to a special request AND the generousity of our program instructor giving up time from her holidays!! October: Even More of My Favourite Houses
Old houses and new stories such as: the "Cedar Beach millionaire" who couldn't afford bail (and why is he buried at West Point?), a woman's overnight escape from 1885's Northwest Resistance, a sailor who served on the USS Arizona on December 7th, 1941, a ship's Master whose final resting site is on the National Register of Historic Places, and a missing Anglican minister.
November: Hiram Walker’s Kingsville Connections
By Request! American business magnate Hiram Walker established his whisky distillery in Windsor in 1858. And that was only the beginning. Learn about Walker’s expansion into Kingsville including: his railroad, the Mettawas Hotel, Birchlea Villa, and the Ontario Natural Gas Co. Discover how it ended so badly and which Walker buildings still stand in Kingsville today.
